President’s Police Medal Awarded to Constable Mohammad Riad Hossain​

Constable Mohammad Riad Hossain of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has been honored with the President’s Police Medal (PPM) for his exemplary conduct during a recent public demonstration. A video capturing his actions went viral on social media, showcasing his innovative approach to crowd management.​

In the footage, Constable Riad is seen preventing protesters from entering the Secretariat by using a bamboo stick to gently tap the ground and nearby electric poles, creating a barrier without causing harm. This method effectively dispersed the crowd without resorting to physical confrontation, earning him widespread praise from the public.​

Following this incident, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification on March 27, announcing that Constable Riad would receive the President’s Police Medal (PPM) for his “ingenious and thoughtful policing techniques” that respected citizens’ dignity while maintaining public order. The notification, signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Toufique Ahmed, stated that the award was effective from the date of the order.​

This recognition highlights the importance of humane and professional conduct within law enforcement, setting a precedent for future interactions between police and the public.
